How to Get to Rajbiraj

Rajbiraj (Saptari District) is served by Rajbiraj Airport (RJB) for short domestic flights-this is the quickest way to reach the town from Kathmandu. Overland buses and private vehicles are the routine alternatives for regional travel in the Terai.

By Air

Rajbiraj Airport (RJB): Rajbiraj has a small domestic airport offering scheduled flights (service varies by season and airline)-the main air link is to Kathmandu (KTM). A flight to Kathmandu takes about 35-50 minutes; fares depend on airline and booking time (typical domestic fares have historically been NPR 5,000-NPR 12,000 but check current schedules).

Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu, KTM): If flying into Kathmandu, domestic connections to Rajbiraj are available; otherwise overland buses and private transfers operate between Kathmandu and the Terai but are long (many hours) and not commonly used for direct travel to Rajbiraj.

By Train & Bus

Train: Nepal does not yet have a national passenger rail service connecting Rajbiraj; regional cross‑border rail projects are under development but not yet regular passenger options.

Bus: Rajbiraj is connected by road to Janakpur, Biratnagar and other Terai towns by regular bus and microbus services. Buses from Janakpur or Lahan take 1-3 hours depending on origin; fares are generally affordable (NPR 100-NPR 600).
