How to Get to Pillaro#
Pillaro (Tungurahua) is served by road from Quito or Ambato; most visitors travel overland by interprovincial bus or private transfer. Bus travel from Ambato is short and convenient, while Quito requires a longer road trip.
Mariscal Sucre International (UIO) - Quito: Quito is the main international gateway for travel to Pillaro; from Quito the journey to Pillaro is by road. Buses from Quito to Pillaro take about 2-3 hours (depending on traffic and route) with fares typically in the range of USD 2-6 on standard services. Taxis or private transfers are faster but cost more.
Ambato / Latacunga (regional): Ambato is the nearest larger city by road and has good bus connections to Pillaro; some travellers use Ambato as a regional hub and continue by bus for the short onward journey (30-60 minutes).
Train: Ecuador does not have an intercity passenger rail network suitable for reaching Pillaro.
