How to Get to Pangani

Pangani (Tanga Region) is best reached via Dar es Salaam (DAR) or Tanga (TGT) if a domestic flight is available; otherwise expect a long coach ride to Tanga and a short local bus or taxi to Pangani. Road travel dominates connections in this coastal area.

By Air

Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR): Dar es Salaam is the main international gateway for reaching Pangani. From Dar you can take a domestic flight to Tanga (Air Tanzania/other operators when scheduled) or travel by long‑distance bus/coach to Tanga (see bus card). A flight Dar-Tanga is about 1 hour; bus journeys are much longer.

Tanga Airport (TGT): Tanga is the closest airport to Pangani; from Tanga Airport a taxi or local bus takes you to Pangani (roughly 1-1.5 hours). Domestic flight frequency to Tanga is limited, so check schedules in advance.

By Train & Bus

Train: Tanzania currently has no direct passenger train service that serves Pangani - rail is not a practical option for this coastal town.

Bus: Long‑distance buses and private coach companies run Dar es Salaam-Tanga routes (journey time ~8-12 hours depending on service). From Tanga, local minibuses (dala‑dalas) and scheduled buses connect to Pangani town (about 1-1.5 hours). Fares on long‑distance buses and dala‑dalas are budget friendly but timetables are less formal than in Europe.
