On Unguja’s sunlit south coast, Koani draws visitors seeking salty air, Swahili culture and relaxed beach life. Small seafood shacks and spice farms showcase Zanzibar’s flavors-think grilled fish and cloves-while dhow trips offer sunset vistas from the water. Best Time to Visit Koani #

For Koani, pick the dry months for the best beach and snorkeling conditions; the long rains (March-May) bring rough seas and poor visibility. The short rains are briefer but still interrupt activities.

Long Rainy Season (Masika)
March - May · 24-30°C (75-86°F)
Heavy, persistent rains; beaches and roads quickly flooded, diving visibility poor-best avoided unless you want dramatic skies and empty resorts.
Short Rainy Season (Vuli)
October - December · 24-30°C (75-86°F)
Brief, intense showers interspersed with sunshine; good bargains and green scenery, though some boat trips cancel during squalls, too.
Dry Season
June - February · 23-31°C (73-88°F)
Hot, sunny days with calm seas and excellent snorkeling/diving; busiest time but perfect for beaches, dhow trips, and clear sunsets.
