Palacio de Bellas Artes is a cultural centre and performance venue in central Mexico City celebrated for its contrasting exterior and interior architecture and for major mural work. The building hosts concerts, theatre, ballet and rotating visual arts exhibitions.

A grand auditorium for performances, exhibition galleries and prominent murals by 20th-century Mexican artists in public spaces. The exterior blends Art Nouveau detailing with a prominent white marble facade while interiors show Art Deco influences.

Construction began in the early 20th century and was completed in the 1930s; delays and engineering challenges shaped its long building phase. Since completion it has been one of Mexico City’s principal venues for large-scale cultural events.

Located on the edge of the Alameda Central park, the palace sits in the historic core of Mexico City near major avenues and other cultural institutions.

Palacio de Bellas Artes sits at the corner of Avenida Juárez and Eje Central in central Mexico City beside Alameda Central. Take the Metro Line 2 (the blue line) to the Bellas Artes station and exit onto Avenida Juárez-the palace is immediately adjacent to the station. It’s also an easy walk from the Zócalo and many Reforma/centro hotels.

• Arrive early in the morning to see the interior murals by Diego Rivera, Siqueiros and others with fewer crowds, and check the box-office for timed tickets for special exhibitions or performances.
• Enter from Avenida Juárez to reach the main lobby quickly; spend time looking up - the building's stained-glass curtain wall and interior murals are the primary attractions many visitors focus on.
• Check the performance calendar and consider attending an evening show - the palace is as much a performing arts venue as it is a museum, and performances showcase different parts of the building.
