How to Get to Pagudpud#
Pagudpud is reached by road after flying into Laoag (LAO) or by long-distance bus/van from other Ilocos towns. The final leg is most commonly done by bus, shared van or private vehicle along the coastal highway.
Laoag International Airport (LAO): The closest airport with scheduled domestic flights (from Manila) and some international services; from Laoag to Pagudpud the drive is approximately 1.5-2.5 hours (about 100-120 km) depending on route. Car hire and private vans are common - expect modest one-way transfer rates.
Clark (CRK) / Manila Ninoy Aquino (MNL): If arriving from further away, most international flights come into Manila or Clark; onward domestic flight to Laoag followed by road transfer to Pagudpud is typical for most international travellers.
Train: There is no direct passenger rail service to Pagudpud; rail travel in northern Luzon is limited.
Bus / Van (V-hire): Buses and V-hire (shared vans) run from Laoag and other Ilocos Norte towns to Pagudpud. Bus journeys from Laoag to Pagudpud take roughly 2-3 hours depending on stops; fares are low (a few hundred PHP) and services run regularly during the day.

Most visitors reach Pagudpud by road from Laoag (LAO) via bus, van or private transfer. For getting around, motorbike or car rental gives the most freedom; local jeepneys and tricycles cover short trips.
- Intercity bus / V-hire (PHP 100-300) - Buses and shared vans (V-hire) are the standard budget option between Laoag and Pagudpud and for local coastal travel. V‑hires are faster but can be less comfortable; buses are slower but roomier - journeys about 2-3 hours.
- Private van / taxi transfer (PHP 1,500-4,000 (one-way)) - Private transfers or hired vans are convenient for groups or when arriving late; they are more expensive but provide door-to-door service and flexibility for stops at beaches and viewpoints.
- Motorbike rental (PHP 300-800/day) - Renting a motorbike is a popular way to explore Pagudpud’s beaches and nearby attractions. Roads are generally paved along the coast but exercise caution on smaller access roads and during wet weather.
- Car (rental) (PHP 1,500-3,500/day) - A rental car provides comfort and range to visit dispersed attractions along the Ilocos coast. Book in advance during peak season and ensure you understand local driving rules and insurance.
