Old Saint Petersburg Stock Exchange

The Old Saint Petersburg Stock Exchange, anchoring Birzhevaya Ploshchad on the city’s spit, is a tidy piece of Russian neoclassicism with rostral columns that point proudly toward maritime commerce. Architecturally it was completed in the early 19th century under Jean-François Thomas de Thomon: a low, temple-like structure with a broad columned portico and sculptural pediments.
