Nosy Ve
Island Small island with red sand beaches
A sand-and-limestone islet off southwestern Madagascar, Nosy Ve is known for seabird colonies and day trips from nearby coastal towns.
Nosy Ve is a small, uninhabited islet off the southwest coast of Madagascar near the city of Toliara (Tuléar). The islet is low, sandy and surrounded by coral reef and is noted for seabird nesting and clear shallow waters.
Visitors typically come on short boat trips from Toliara for wildlife viewing and snorkeling around the surrounding reef; there are no visitor facilities on the islet. The island’s exposed shoreline and reef make it important for local marine and bird life.
The islet has been used traditionally for fishing activities in nearby waters and has no permanent settlement. It functions mainly as a natural site rather than a developed tourist destination.
Geographically Nosy Ve lies in the Mozambique Channel off southwestern Madagascar, a short distance from the coast near Toliara, and is accessed by local boat from that coastal town.
- Seabird colony: Famous locally as a breeding islet for seabirds and as a short boat trip from the coastal city of Toliara (Tuléar).
