How to Get to Nebaj#
Nebaj (in the Ixil region) is reachable only by road from Guatemala City or regional centres; La Aurora (GUA) is the nearest international airport. Mountain roads make the trip long - plan for a full-day journey from the capital by public bus or shuttle.
La Aurora International Airport (GUA): The main entry point for visitors to Nebaj is La Aurora in Guatemala City. From GUA you must continue overland - there are no regular commercial flights into Nebaj itself; road travel from the capital typically takes several hours due to distance and mountain roads.
Regional airfields: There are no widely used scheduled flights that serve Nebaj directly; plan to arrive by road from Guatemala City or nearby departmental centres.
Train: Guatemala does not operate national passenger rail services; train travel is not available to Nebaj.
Bus / Minibus: Nebaj is served by intercity buses and shared minibuses (colectivos) from major towns such as Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango and Chichicastenango. Overland journeys from Guatemala City take several hours (often 5-8 hours depending on the route and stops). Expect basic vehicles and variable road conditions on the final stretches; fares are low compared with private transfers.
