Northern Highlands (Kachin & far north)
Early sunlight quickly warms valleys; daytime highs in Putao and Myitkyina are comfortable while nights stay chilly, especially above 1,500-2,000 m. February is excellent for trekking in the foothills because trails are dry and views of the highest peaks are sharp; the air is at its cleanest before the spring burns start. Bring warm sleepwear and layers for sudden temperature swings, and note that flights to frontier airfields can still be weather‑sensitive but generally run reliably.
Shan Plateau & Eastern Highlands (Inle Lake, Taunggyi)
The plateau stays fresh, with vineyard and tea‑growing slopes offering crisp daylight and chilly nights, especially around Taunggyi and Kalaw. February is prime time for long walks on dusty trails and for attending smaller hill festivals; the dry ground makes off‑road drives easier. Bring a windproof jacket for breezy ridgelines and a hat for strong sun on exposed ridge paths.
Central Dry Zone (Mandalay, Bagan, Meiktila)
Clear skies continue and the central plains stay cool through February; river levels in the Ayeyarwady begin to fall after the wet season, exposing sandbars and making boat schedules more predictable. Cultural sites near Amarapura and Sagaing are pleasant to visit without oppressive heat; early mornings remain the best time for photography. Pack layers for cool dawns and lightweight clothing for mild afternoons, and expect tourist numbers to remain steady.
Irrawaddy Delta & Yangon Region
February keeps the pleasant cool season with warm days and mild nights; flower markets are active and river levels are moderate making rural ferry crossings reliable. It’s a good month for day trips to Twante and the pottery villages or for exploring Hlawga for birdwatching. Pack sun protection for midday and a light sweater for air‑conditioned restaurants or buses.
Rakhine Coast & Western Lowlands (Ngapali, Sittwe, Mrauk-U)
The clear, warm days of February continue and coastal breezes moderate the heat; visibility offshore is good for diving and the sunsets at Ngapali are spectacular. Historical tours in Mrauk‑U are comfortable without the humidity of the low season; road transfers are smooth on firm surfaces. Pack sun protection and light clothing for beach activities and cooler evening wear for open‑air dining.
Tanintharyi Coast & Mergui Archipelago (Dawei, Kawthaung, Mergui islands)
The dry, breezy conditions continue in February and sea conditions remain calm, ideal for sailing between islands and visiting the remote Kaw Thaung national parks. Trekking on Dawei’s coastal hills is comfortable in the shade and nights are pleasantly cool for lowland Myanmar. This is a top month for marine wildlife sightings and for smooth ferry crossings to outer islands.
