How to Get to Moynaq

Moynaq (Muynak) is remote on the former shores of the Aral Sea and is most easily reached via Nukus (NCU) with a long road transfer. Domestic flights to Nukus plus road travel form the usual route.

By Air

Nukus International Airport (NCU): Nukus is the main airport serving Karakalpakstan and is the closest airport for Moynaq; flights connect Nukus to Tashkent and occasionally other domestic routes. From Nukus, the drive to Moynaq is long (several hours by road depending on route conditions) and is usually completed by taxi or shared transport-expect a multi-hour journey.

Tashkent International Airport (TAS): Tashkent is Uzbekistan’s main international gateway. From Tashkent you can fly to Nukus (short domestic flight) or travel overland by a combination of train/bus; total travel time to Moynaq from Tashkent is long and normally requires an overnight stop in Nukus or a long road journey.

By Train & Bus

Train: Rail connections in Karakalpakstan are centered on Nukus; there is no direct passenger rail to Moynaq. Use trains to Nukus from Tashkent or other Uzbek cities, then continue by road.

Bus / Shared taxi: The final leg to Moynaq is almost always by road: shared taxis (marshrutkas) and private transfers operate from Nukus or nearby towns. Travel times are generally several hours, and services may be infrequent-plan ahead and check local schedules.
