Mother Ukraine Monument

Mother Ukraine Monument (Rodyna-Mat) is a large steel monument on Kyiv’s right bank that forms the focal point of the Second World War memorial complex. Erected during the Soviet period, the statue depicts a robed female figure bearing a sword and shield and sits atop an extensive museum complex.

The monument anchors the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War and is surrounded by memorial plazas, exhibition halls and landscaped terraces. It is a prominent visual landmark in Kyiv and is commonly visited as part of the museum complex and larger memorial grounds.

The statue and museum date from the later Soviet era and were intended as a large-scale commemorative complex for wartime sacrifice; the site has since been integrated into Ukraine’s national historical narrative and is visited for both historical exhibits and panoramic views across the Dnipro River.

The monument is located in the Pechersk district of central Kyiv, on elevated ground a short distance from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and overlooking the river and city.
