Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is a Zambian national park that protects the Zambian side of Victoria Falls and adjacent riverine and savanna habitats near Livingstone. The name Mosi-oa-Tunya means “the smoke that thunders.”

From the park’s viewpoints visitors see the spray and main cataract of Victoria Falls and follow footpaths along the Zambezi River and gorge edges. The park also contains short wildlife routes where visitors may encounter elephants, antelope and other riverine species in relatively small protected areas adjacent to the falls.

The area around Victoria Falls has been recognized for its natural and cultural significance for many years; the Zambian national park was created to protect the falls’ eastern approaches, river frontage and associated habitats. Conservation and visitor infrastructure developed to manage tourism and protect wildlife.

The park sits immediately adjacent to the town of Livingstone in southern Zambia and covers the Zambian shoreline and gorge of the Zambezi River beside Victoria Falls.
