Montagne d'Ambre National Park

Montagne d’Ambre National Park is a protected volcanic massif in northern Madagascar that preserves montane rainforest, crater lakes and waterfalls. The park is notable for its cool, humid forests and a rich assemblage of endemic plants and reptiles.

Visitors typically hike short to moderate trails to reach viewpoints, crater lakes and waterfalls, with wildlife sightings including chameleons, endemic frogs and a variety of forest birds. The park’s vegetation is dense and often moss-covered, reflecting the mountain’s high humidity.

The area was set aside to protect the montane ecosystems and their endemic species and is managed within Madagascar’s park system. Local guides are commonly used for trails and wildlife spotting.

The park sits in the Diana Region of northern Madagascar near the town of Joffreville and is accessible from regional transport hubs in the far north of the island.
