The Marrakech Museum occupies a restored 19th-century palace in Marrakech’s medina and presents Moroccan art, craft, and cultural exhibitions. Its displays include ceramics, textiles, jewelry and rotating contemporary shows.

A principal feature is the ornate central courtyard with decorative tilework and carved plaster, which provides the architectural highlight for many visitors. Galleries and small rooms around the courtyard showcase both historical pieces and temporary exhibitions by local and regional artists.

The building began life as a private urban palace in the 19th century before being adapted for public use as a museum in the later 20th century. Restoration work has focused on conserving the palace courtyard, carved decoration and tiled surfaces while adapting interior rooms for exhibitions.

The museum sits inside Marrakech’s medina, within walking distance of Jemaa el-Fna and other central medina sites in the Marrakesh-Safi administrative region.

The museum is in the medina near Ben Youssef Mosque. From Jemaa el-Fnaa, it’s a roughly 10-15 minute walk north along narrow medina streets. Taxis can drop visitors at the northern medina gates; signage in the medina points toward Place Ben Youssef.

• Enter via the main square (Place Ben Youssef) to appreciate the museum's exterior and courtyard before the interior rooms.
• Look up - the carved cedar ceiling in the central courtyard is often missed by hurried visitors.
• Combine the visit with the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the Saadian Tombs; all three are within a short walk of each other.
