How to Get to Maralal
Maralal (Samburu County) is best reached by road from Isiolo or by regional charter flights to nearby airstrips plus a road transfer. Road travel can be lengthy and is affected by seasonal conditions; plan with local operators.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) / Wilson (WIL): International visitors typically fly into Nairobi (NBO) or Wilson (WIL) and continue by road or domestic flight north to Samburu region towns. From Nairobi the road transfer to Maralal is long (8-10+ hours) and often done by private vehicle or bus.
Wajir / Isiolo / Samburu regional airstrips: There are smaller regional and charter airstrips serving northern Kenya; charter flights into nearby airstrips (e.g., Samburu) followed by road transfer to Maralal are possible-charters should be arranged in advance with reputable operators.
Train: Kenya Rail (SGR) does not serve Maralal or the Samburu interior-rail is not a travel option to Maralal.
Bus / Matatu: Road transport is the primary way to reach Maralal. Long‑distance buses and matatus operate from Isiolo and Nairobi; journey times are long and road conditions can be challenging, especially in the rainy season.
