Victoria Travel Guide
City Capital city of Gozo, Malta
On Gozo the citadel crowns a compact town of honey-stone streets and tiny cafés. Tourists climb for panoramas, visit the cathedral and museums, and sample gbejniet and local seafood in the market.
Why Visit Victoria? #
Perched above Gozo’s harbor, Victoria offers history and everyday island life in one compact center. Wander the Citadel’s ramparts and cobbled lanes, browse local stalls selling ġbejniet (Gozo cheeselets) and honey, and soak up Saturday market energy around Republic Street and the Cathedral. Museums and nearby rural hamlets add layers of craft traditions and agricultural fairs to the town’s appeal. Evening light from the bastions makes strolls especially pleasant.

Malta International Airport (MLA): Malta’s main airport is at Luqa (MLA). To reach Victoria (Rabat) on Gozo you’ll first travel to Ċirkewwa on Malta and take the Gozo Channel ferry; taxis from the airport to Ċirkewwa take about 45-60 minutes and are typically €35-€50 depending on traffic and route.
(No airport on Gozo): Gozo has no scheduled commercial airport; all air arrivals use MLA on Malta and continue by ferry or helicopter services (helicopter services are occasional and pricier).
Train: Malta has no national rail network.
Bus: The Gozo Channel ferry (Ċirkewwa-Mġarr) takes around 25 minutes for foot passengers; standard one‑way foot passenger fares are charged (adult single typically around €4.65). Malta Public Transport runs buses from Mġarr ferry terminal into Victoria - journeys take about 20-30 minutes and single fares on Gozo are around €2 per trip (use the Tallinja card or cash where accepted).
