How to Get to Imġarr
Mġarr (Malta) is accessed via Malta International Airport (MLA) with onward travel by taxi, rental car or the public bus network. The village is within a short drive of the airport and is best reached by road.
Malta International Airport (MLA): Flights arrive at MLA in Luqa. Mġarr (Imġarr) on Malta is about a 20-35 minute drive from the airport depending on which Mġarr is meant - if you mean Mġarr on the main island, taxis and rental cars take 20-30 minutes. There’s no commercial airfield on Gozo for scheduled service.
(No other airports): Use MLA for all scheduled international arrivals; then transfer by road to Mġarr.
Bus: Malta’s public buses connect the airport and major towns; routes to Mġarr require connections through central hubs such as Valletta or Bugibba depending on the Mġarr location. Journey times from the airport are typically 40-70 minutes with changes. Single bus fares are low - check the Tallinja Card or current cash fares.
Taxi / Car hire: Taxis and rental cars provide the most direct transfers from MLA and are convenient for exploring rural Mġarr and nearby attractions.
How to Get Around Imġarr #
Imġarr is a rural village with a compact centre you can walk around easily. Malta’s public buses link Imġarr with nearby towns and the ferry port, but services are less frequent than in urban areas. A hire car gives the most freedom to reach remote churches, countryside lanes and neighbouring villages. Wear good shoes for uneven paths and bring water if walking in summer heat.
