How to Get to Makeni#
Makeni is a central northern city best reached by road from Freetown after arriving at Lungi International Airport (FNA). Shared minibuses and private hires provide the common transport links to and from Makeni.
Lungi International Airport (FNA): Makeni is reached overland from Freetown after arrival at Lungi. The water crossing to Freetown takes about 30-45 minutes by fast boat; the onward drive to Makeni is typically around 3-4 hours by car or bus depending on traffic and stops.
(Domestic flights): There are no widely used scheduled domestic flights to Makeni; road travel is the usual option.
Train: Sierra Leone has no passenger rail services.
