How to Get to Lympia#
Lympia is a village in Nicosia District best reached by road from Larnaca’s airport (LCA) or by bus via Nicosia. Cyprus has no passenger trains, so buses, taxis and car hire are the practical options for arrival and onward travel.
Larnaca International Airport (LCA): Larnaca is the main international airport for Cyprus. From LCA to Lympia (Nicosia District) the drive is about 25-35 minutes; airport taxis cost roughly EUR 30-50 and bus services connect Larnaca to Nicosia where you can transfer to a local bus to Lympia (total journey ~45-70 minutes).
Paphos International Airport (PFO): Paphos is further away on the west coast-expect a 1.5-2 hour drive to Lympia by car or a combination of intercity buses and transfers (longer and less direct than from Larnaca).
Train: Cyprus has no active passenger rail network, so train travel is not an option.
Bus: Intercity buses run from Larnaca to Nicosia (buses to Nicosia central bus station take about 40-50 minutes, fare around EUR 1.50-3), then local bus routes from Nicosia serve villages like Lympia; total public transport time is typically 60-90 minutes depending on connections.
How to Get Around Lympia#
Buses from Larnaca to Nicosia plus a local bus or taxi to Lympia work well for budget travellers; renting a car gives the most convenience for rural exploration and off-schedule travel.
- Intercity bus (Larnaca↔Nicosia) (EUR 1.50-4) - Regular buses connect Larnaca Airport and city with Nicosia; from Nicosia central bus station you can catch local buses to Lympia. Buses are inexpensive and relatively frequent but can require a transfer and luggage handling is less convenient than a taxi.
- Taxi / private transfer (EUR 30-60) - Taxis from Larnaca Airport to Lympia are the fastest and most direct option-useful for groups or when public transport schedules are inconvenient. Pre-booked transfers give a fixed price and meet-and-greet service.
- Car hire (EUR 25-70/day) - Renting a car is convenient for exploring Nicosia District and the surrounding countryside. Roads are good and signage is clear; parking in villages is usually straightforward. A car is the most flexible way to reach dispersed rural sites.
- Local bus (EUR 1-3) - Local buses from Nicosia serve Lympia with multiple daily departures; these are cheap but may be less frequent on weekends and public holidays. Check the national bus operator’s timetable for exact routes and times.
- Bicycle (EUR 0.50-5 (hire)) - For local exploration near Lympia, cycling can be pleasant on quieter country roads-suitable in fair weather and for short distances. Traffic on main roads can be faster, so use secondary routes where possible.
- Walking - Lympia is a compact village where walking is the easiest way to reach local shops, cafes and nearby trails. Wear comfortable shoes for uneven pavements and country paths.
