Coastal Plain (Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon, Tyre)
By mid-March the first clear, warm mornings arrive and blossom appears on roadside citrus; sunny spells become more frequent though showers still pop up. The Mediterranean is gradually losing its winter chill, and coastal promenades in Beirut and Batroun begin filling with locals again. This is a good shoulder-season time to enjoy souks and archaeological sites without heat or heavy crowds; a light jacket and an umbrella will cover most contingencies.
Mount Lebanon & Ski Areas (Faraya, Mzaar, The Cedars, Qornet al-Sawda)
By mid-March the mountains begin shifting toward spring skiing: warm sunshine at noon, hard-packed mornings and slushier afternoons on slopes above 1,500-2,000 metres. Lower villages such as Faraya see melting snow and muddy streets but lush green returning to orchards. This is a great time for combined itineraries - morning slopes and afternoon drives down to the coast - but be ready for rapidly changing conditions.
Bekaa Valley (Zahle, Baalbek, Chtaura, wineries)
By mid-March almond and fruit trees start to flower and the Bekaa shifts quickly from brown to green as winter moisture feeds fields. Daytime temperatures are pleasantly mild and ideal for visiting wineries around Chtaura, where vineyard work begins for the season. This is a quieter time before peak festival crowds; dress in layers for warm afternoons and cool evenings, and expect dust on rural roads.
North Lebanon & Akkar (Tripoli, Batroun, Koura, Akkar hills)
By mid-March the region moves toward spring as orchards and olive groves start to green and coastal winds moderate, making Batroun’s seaside cafes excellent for sunny afternoons. The sea begins to warm but is still cool; boat operators resume more frequent runs. This is a good month for coastal drives and visiting small museums without summer crowds; pack layers for mornings and evenings.
South Lebanon & Litani Basin (Jezzine, Nabatieh, Tyre’s wetlands, Sour)
By mid-March the south awakens: green returns to terraces, and small orchards show blossoms while the coastal strip becomes milder. Jezzine’s viewpoints and Tyre’s Roman lanes are comfortable for daytime exploration, and café terraces begin to reopen. Travel at this time rewards with pleasant walking weather and quieter sites than summer; bring layers for cool mornings and evenings.
