Coastal Plain (Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon, Tyre)
August delivers the hottest and busiest weeks along the coast, with packed beaches and late-night promenades in Beirut, Byblos and Jounieh. Sea conditions are generally calm but occasional swells or stinging-jellyfish reports can disrupt swimming; local lifeguards will post warnings. If you dislike crowds, plan early-morning walks on the Corniche; pack cooling clothes, a refillable water bottle and expect higher prices for popular beachfront accommodations.
Mount Lebanon & Ski Areas (Faraya, Mzaar, The Cedars, Qornet al-Sawda)
August remains warm but not stifling in the high country; morning hikes are pleasant and afternoons can be hot on exposed ridgelines. Mountain refuges and guesthouses are lively with families and locals seeking relief from city heat; book ahead for holiday weekends. Nights are refreshingly cool; a light fleece will make outdoor dining and stargazing comfortable. Be mindful of fire-risk notices in dry years.
Bekaa Valley (Zahle, Baalbek, Chtaura, wineries)
August continues very hot and dry with clear skies; this is harvest preparation time in some irrigated pockets though main grape harvest usually comes later. Mornings are your best window for outdoor touring, and many rural services operate at reduced hours during peak midday heat. If you’re attending summer events in Baalbek, expect warm nights and bring a hat and plenty of water.
North Lebanon & Akkar (Tripoli, Batroun, Koura, Akkar hills)
August remains hot and vibrant, with busy coastal towns and clear skies most days; evenings are the social highlight as restaurants and seafront bars stay open late. Jellyfish reports sometimes surface, so heed local beach warnings. For quieter experiences, head inland to the olive terraces of Koura and Akkar where evenings are cooler and countryside stays tranquil.
South Lebanon & Litani Basin (Jezzine, Nabatieh, Tyre’s wetlands, Sour)
August remains at peak heat, and sea breezes provide the main respite along Tyre and Sidon; jellyfish can occasionally be reported and local flags or lifeguards will advise on coastal safety. Tourist services are at their busiest and restaurants fill up in the evenings; book ahead for popular seaside dining. For cooler day trips, head up into Jezzine’s shaded gorges.
