Lake Tempe

Lake Tempe is a shallow freshwater lake in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, located in Wajo Regency. It is a significant local waterbody used widely for fishing, aquaculture and as a living environment for lakeside communities.

The lake is notable for its floating houses and villages where residents live and work on or beside the water; boat travel is the main practical way to move across much of the lake. Local markets and fish-farming structures are visible features on the lake surface.

Historically the lake has been part of the economic and social life of local Bugis and other Sulawesi communities, supporting fisheries and wetland agriculture; it continues to be an active resource for fishing and transport.

Geographically it sits in Wajo Regency in South Sulawesi, with the town of Sengkang and other lakeside settlements providing the main access points and services for visitors.
