Tips for Visiting Lake McDonald #

  • Enter from the west (Apgar Village/West Glacier entrance) - Apgar has the main parking, visitor facilities and lakeshore trails that put you right on Lake McDonald without needing to drive far into the park.
  • Visit at sunrise or early morning for calm water and dramatic reflections of the mountains; this also avoids the mid‑day wave of tour buses and Going‑to‑the‑Sun Road traffic.
  • If the park shuttle is running in season, use it or arrive before 9:00 a.m. to secure lakeside parking; take the Lakeshore Trail east from Apgar to reach quieter stretches and viewpoints most day visitors miss.
