Lake Chamo is a freshwater rift-valley lake in southern Ethiopia, located immediately south of the town of Arba Minch and contiguous with Lake Abaya via a narrow channel. It is a significant local centre for wildlife viewing, especially crocodiles and hippopotamuses.
The lake’s margins and islands support abundant birdlife and populations of Nile crocodile and hippopotamus, which are commonly seen from boats launched near Arba Minch. Boat safaris along the lake are a regular activity for visitors seeking wildlife sightings and birdwatching.
