The Lady Lever Art Gallery is an art museum in Port Sunlight on the Wirral peninsula in England, established by William Hesketh Lever as part of his Port Sunlight estate. It opened in the early 20th century to house Lever’s collection of fine and decorative arts.

The gallery’s holdings emphasise British painting, portraiture and a large collection of decorative ceramics including Wedgwood, assembled by its founder. The building itself and its interiors were designed to display these collections in a domestic, gallery-like setting.

Founded and endowed by William Lever, the gallery opened in 1922 as a memorial and public cultural institution. Since then it has been managed as part of the public museum network and the collections have been conserved and displayed for visitors.

The gallery is located in Port Sunlight, Merseyside, close to Liverpool and accessible from the wider Merseyside area.

  • Founding: Founded by industrialist William Lever (later Lord Leverhulme) and opened to the public in 1922 as a memorial to his wife.
  • Access: Part of National Museums Liverpool; admission is generally free and the gallery is located within the Port Sunlight model village on the Wirral peninsula.
