How to Get to La Parguera
La Parguera is a coastal village in Lajas best reached by car or shuttle from Ponce or Aguadilla. It is the launching point for island and bioluminescent tours, so time your arrival to match boat schedules.
Rafael Hernández Airport, Aguadilla (BQN) / Mercedita Airport, Ponce (PSE): Arrivals for La Parguera typically use Ponce (PSE) or Aguadilla (BQN). From Ponce the drive is around 40-60 minutes; from Aguadilla it’s roughly 1-1.5 hours. Taxis and rental cars are common for the last leg to the village and pier.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, San Juan (SJU): San Juan is farther away (around 2-3 hours by road) but offers more flight options; many visitors drive or take a shuttle from San Juan.
Train: There is no intercity rail in Puerto Rico.
Bus / Road: Regional buses and private shuttles serve Lajas and La Parguera from Ponce, Mayagüez and other nearby towns. Most tourists prefer rental cars or pre-booked transfers to ensure timely arrival for boat trips.
How to Get Around La Parguera #
La Parguera’s core is compact and very walkable-the waterfront, docks and most restaurants are within a short stroll. Boats and water taxis are common for reaching nearby cays and tour departure points; parking can be limited during busy periods. A car is useful for getting to La Parguera from Ponce or Mayagüez, but once there you’ll likely leave it parked and get around on foot or by boat.
