KV1
Monument Tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings
Inside the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, tomb KV1-believed to belong to Ramesses VII-attracts visitors interested in New Kingdom funerary art, painted corridors and Egyptology.
KV1 is a numbered tomb in the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of the Nile opposite modern Luxor in Egypt. It is one of the catalogued royal tombs within the archaeological landscape of the valley.
As part of the Valley of the Kings, KV1 belongs to the New Kingdom period burial landscape and forms part of the sequence of excavated and studied tombs used for royal internment. The valley contains multiple tombs arranged and numbered by modern Egyptologists.
The tomb was cut into the limestone of the valley and recorded by nineteenth- and twentieth-century explorers and Egyptologists during systematic surveys of the site. Over time the Valley of the Kings area has been subject to excavation, conservation and periodic controlled visitation.
KV1 sits on the west bank of the Nile, within the concentration of royal tombs that lie west of the modern city of Luxor (ancient Thebes). Access and viewing are managed as part of the Valley of the Kings archaeological complex.
