How to Get to Kurunegala

Kurunegala is well connected to Colombo by both rail and bus, and most international visitors arrive via Bandaranaike International (CMB) then continue by train or road. Trains offer a cheap, direct route from Colombo; buses provide greater schedule frequency and coverage.

By Air

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB): The main international gateway for Sri Lanka, north of Colombo. From CMB to Kurunegala the drive is usually 1.5-2 hours by road depending on traffic; taxis and private transfers are common. There are no direct international flights into Kurunegala itself.

Mattala / Colombo Domestic Options: Smaller domestic airfields exist, but international arrivals use CMB with onward road or rail travel to Kurunegala.
