How to Get to Kongernes Nordsjælland #
The Kongernes Nordsjælland (Royal North Zealand) area is reached easily from Copenhagen by train. Take Danish rail services north from Copenhagen to Hillerød for Frederiksborg Castle and to Helsingør (Kronborg Castle) on the coastal (Kystbanen) line. These train journeys take under an hour for Helsingør and about the same or slightly longer for Hillerød by regional/S‑train services.
By car, head north out of Copenhagen on the E47/E55 corridor to the North Zealand towns; once in Hillerød or Helsingør the major castles and parkland are a short walk or local bus/taxi ride from the railway stations.
Tips for Visiting Kongernes Nordsjælland #
- Start early in the morning to catch wildlife activity in Jægersborg Dyrehave and to avoid mid‑day visitors to popular castles and lakes.
- Use public transport entry points: Klampenborg station is the easiest access for Dyrehaven and its trails, while Hillerød (S‑train/regional) is the convenient gateway for Frederiksborg Castle and nearby lakes.
- Explore lesser‑used trails in Gribskov and around Esrum Sø-these quieter routes reveal varied forest scenery and avoid the busiest picnic and castle viewpoints.
