The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a museum of modern and contemporary art located in Humlebæk on the Danish coast, opened in 1958. It is internationally recognised for its modern collection and for situating indoor galleries and outdoor sculptures within a scenic seaside landscape.

Permanent displays cover 20th- and 21st-century art across painting, sculpture, photography and installation, while temporary exhibitions host international artists and curated projects. The sculpture park occupies the gardens facing the Øresund and is integrated with the museum’s linear architecture to provide framed sea views.

The museum was founded by Knud W. Jensen and has grown through acquisitions and loans to include internationally significant works that emphasise the dialogue between art, architecture and landscape. It is frequently cited for its panoramic sightlines and well-curated temporary programme.

Louisiana stands on the coast of North Zealand, roughly 35 kilometres north of central Copenhagen, and is accessible by regional train to Humlebæk plus a short walk from the station.

Catch a regional/Øresund train from Copenhagen to Humlebæk on the Coast Line; trains call at Humlebæk station. From the station it’s a 15-20 minute walk (about 1-1.5 km) north along Strandvejen to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, or you can take a short taxi or local bus.

By car it’s roughly a 30-40 km drive north from central Copenhagen via the Helsingørmotorvejen (E47/E55) and Strandvejen, with parking available at the museum.

• Take the Kystbanen train to Humlebæk and walk the short coastal path to the museum-arriving midweek or late afternoon reduces crowds and gives good light over Øresund from the sculpture park.
• Don't skip the outdoor sculpture park and the sea-facing terraces; many visitors stay only in the galleries and miss the museum's best coastal views and outdoor installations.
• Buy tickets online when exhibitions are major draws (summer and weekends) to avoid queues, and allow time to linger in the café for the waterfront panorama.
