How to Get to Khobi#
Khobi is reached by road from several regional airports and by rail via nearby hubs such as Poti and Zugdidi. The practical arrival routes are Kutaisi Airport (for most international connections) or Batumi, with onward minibuses, taxis or regional trains to reach the town.
Kutaisi International Airport (KUT): The closest major airport for western Georgia; regular domestic minibuses and marshrutkas run from Kutaisi to towns in Samegrelo, and private taxis are available outside the terminal. Expect drive time to Khobi by car of about 1-1.5 hours; taxi transfers typically cost in the region of €30-€60 depending on vehicle and negotiation.
Batumi International Airport (BUS): A useful alternative if flying from Turkey or some regional carriers; Batumi is farther (roughly 1.5-2.5 hours by car to Khobi). Shared minibuses to regional hubs and private taxis are the main public options - journey times 1.5-2.5 hours, fares typically higher than from Kutaisi because of the longer distance.
Train: Khobi district is served by regional rail connections on the western Georgian lines; the nearest larger stations are Poti and Zugdidi, where long-distance trains (to Tbilisi and Zugdidi) stop. From Poti or Zugdidi you can catch local taxis or minibuses to Khobi; travel times from Zugdidi/Poti are typically 20-60 minutes depending on route.
Bus / Marshrutka: Intercity marshrutkas connect Kutaisi, Poti, Zugdidi and local towns in Samegrelo; prices are low (usually a few GEL) and travel time from Kutaisi is about 1-1.5 hours, from Poti or Zugdidi much shorter. Buses and minibuses depart from central bus stations in larger towns - schedules are frequent but can be informal, so allow flexibility.
How to Get Around Khobi#
Getting around Khobi and the Samegrelo district works best by a mix of marshrutkas and short taxi rides; trains are useful for approaching from larger hubs. For flexibility and comfort, especially with luggage, arrange a private transfer or hire a car.
- Regional train (to Poti / Zugdidi) (low (a few GEL)) - Regional Georgian Railways services connect larger hubs; trains are basic but inexpensive and useful for reaching the area from Tbilisi or other regional centres. From Poti or Zugdidi you usually take a short taxi or marshrutka to Khobi; check current timetables as service levels vary.
- Marshrutka (minibus) (≈1-5 GEL) - The most common public transport for short and medium distances in Samegrelo. Marshrutkas run between Kutaisi, Poti, Zugdidi and local towns; they are frequent, cheap, and drop you close to town centres but can be crowded and run to informal timetables.
- Taxi / Private transfer (≈€20-€60) - Taxis are widely available from airports and stations; fixed-rate airport shuttles are rare, so expect to negotiate or agree a price in advance. Useful for early/late arrivals or if carrying luggage - faster and more comfortable than marshrutkas.
- Car hire (€25+/day) - Hiring a car gives maximum flexibility to explore Samegrelo and surrounding rural areas; roads vary from good highways to narrow local roads. Make sure your rental covers insurance and ask about winter tyres if visiting in cold months.
- Local buses (low) - Local scheduled buses link villages and small towns; slower than marshrutkas but cheaper and more predictable. They serve local stops that minibuses may bypass - handy for short hops around the district.
- Walking - Khobi is a small town and much of it can be explored on foot; walking is the best way to reach local shops and cafes, and to visit nearby sights. Roads may have limited sidewalks in places, so take care of traffic.
Where to Stay in Khobi#
Khobi center - limited/none ($10-30/night)
I can’t safely list currently operating budget guesthouses in Khobi without live web checks. Options in town are very limited; most stay in nearby Senaki or Zugdidi.
Senaki / Zugdidi - $40-80/night
Mid-range hotels are scarce in Khobi itself. Consider comfortable hotels in Senaki or Zugdidi (20-40 minutes by car). I need live lookup to name options.
Nearby regional cities (Kutaisi/Tbilisi) - $80+/night
No high-end hotels in Khobi. Luxury stays are in regional centers (Kutaisi/Tbilisi) - far from Khobi. I can fetch exact properties if you want.
