How to Get to Kavajë#

Kavajë is most easily reached from Tirana International Airport (TIA) by road; there is limited rail service in the region so buses and minibuses (furgons) are the practical public‑transport choices. Driving is straightforward along the coastal plain.

By Air

Tirana Nënë Tereza International Airport (TIA): The closest international airport is Tirana (TIA), about 30-40 km from Kavajë. From TIA you can take a taxi, private transfer or bus/minibus (furgon) toward Kavajë - journey time is typically 30-50 minutes depending on traffic.

Rinas / local options: There are no other nearby international airports with regular service that give a clear advantage over Tirana for reaching Kavajë.

By Train & Bus

Train: Albania’s passenger rail network is limited; Kavajë does not have a major regular intercity rail connection. Relying on rail for access is generally impractical.

Bus / Furgon (minibus): The most common public option is a minibus (furgon) or intercity bus from Tirana (Rruga e Durrësit / bus terminals) and from Durrës; regular minibuses run the Tirana-Kavajë and Durrës-Kavajë routes and are the fastest and cheapest public options for reaching the town.

How to Get Around Kavajë#

Kavajë is served principally by road from Tirana Airport or Durrës; minibuses (furgons) and private taxis are the standard ways to get in and out. Once in town, walking and cycling cover most short trips.

  • Bus / Minibus (Furgon) (≈ALL 100-300 (approx.) ) - Furgons and scheduled buses connect Kavajë with Tirana and nearby Durrës multiple times daily. They are inexpensive and frequent during daytime hours-popular with commuters-though vehicles can be crowded. Depart from Tirana bus terminals on Rruga e Durrësit for the most departures.
  • Car / Taxi (Varies (local fare) ) - Taxis and private transfers from Tirana Airport or Durrës provide a direct, faster door‑to‑door option; route is mostly motorway or main road and takes about 30-50 minutes depending on traffic. Negotiate or confirm the fare in advance for intercity trips.
  • Shared shuttle / Transfer (Varies (prebook) ) - Some hotels and private operators offer prebooked shuttles between Tirana Airport and Kavajë, convenient for groups or if you prefer not to use public minibuses. Availability varies-book ahead in peak season.
  • Bicycle - Kavajë and the surrounding coastal plains are flat and suitable for cycling short distances. Bikes are a pleasant way to move around locally, but expect traffic on main roads-use quieter streets where possible.
  • Walking - Kavajë’s town centre is compact and easy to explore on foot; most local amenities, shops and the sea promenade are accessible by walking from the central square.
