Dajti Mountain

Dajti refers to Mount Dajt and its protected areas, a forested massif just east of Tirana in Albania. The mountain rises to approximately 1,613 metres and forms a prominent natural backdrop to the capital.

The area offers walking and hiking trails, picnic sites and viewpoints that look down over Tirana and the plain. A cable-car service provides convenient access to the plateau from the city, making it a popular recreational destination for residents and visitors.

Dajti has been managed for recreation and conservation, with forested slopes and karst features typical of the region. The mountain’s climate is noticeably cooler than the city below.

Geographically it sits immediately east of Tirana and functions as the near-urban mountain area for the capital, with roads and the cable car linking urban and upland zones.

Mount Dajt (Dajti) sits immediately east of central Tirana and is served as Tirana’s main local mountain escape. The easiest public-access option is the Dajti Ekspres cable car: its lower station is on the outskirts of the city and is reachable by taxi or local buses from central Tirana; the cable car takes you up into Dajti National Park where short walks and viewpoints are available.

If you prefer to drive, the park and mountain roads are about a 20-30 minute drive from central Tirana depending on traffic; there are parking areas near the upper cable-car station and trailheads, and from the cable-car top station it is a short walk to the main viewpoints and trails.

• Take the Dajti Ekspres cable car from the main lower station near Tirana to reach the summit quickly and get panoramic views of the city-arriving early or late in the afternoon reduces time spent queuing on busy weekends.
• Plan hikes or visits around weekdays if possible: the park plateau is a popular weekend escape for Tirana residents, so weekdays offer quieter trails and easier parking at the lower station.
