Dajti National Park National Park

Dajti National Park protects Mount Dajti and surrounding forested slopes immediately east of Tirana, Albania, with the mountain peak rising to about 1,613 meters above sea level. The park is a popular nearby natural escape for residents and visitors to Tirana.

Trails of varying difficulty run through beech and oak woodlands and lead to viewpoints that overlook Tirana and, on clear days, distant coastal plains and the Adriatic. A cable car provides direct access from the city outskirts to the park plateau, shortening what would otherwise be a steep climb.

The area was set aside to conserve the mountain’s forests and recreational landscape and has been developed with marked trails, picnic areas and visitor facilities while retaining much of its natural character.

Dajti sits immediately east of Tirana city; the park’s lower station is on Tirana’s eastern outskirts and the summit lies roughly 10 kilometers from the city center by road.

• Access: The cable car departs from the park station near the outskirts of Tirana and provides the quickest public access to the higher plateau and summit viewpoints.
• Weather tip: Weather on the mountain is typically cooler than in Tirana; bring layered clothing and check conditions before hiking.

What to See#

• Mount Dajti summit: The mountain summit at about 1,613 meters above sea level, offering lookout points with views over Tirana and, on clear days, toward the Adriatic Sea.
• Dajti Ekspres cable car: A cable car that connects the outskirts of Tirana with the park’s plateau, providing the main public access route to higher trails and viewpoints.
• Plateau trails and picnic areas: Forested plateaus and designated picnic areas used for short hikes, local birdwatching and mountain recreation close to Tirana.

From central Tirana, drive or take a taxi east on Rruga Dajti toward the Dajti Ekspres cable car base station; the cable car ride to the plateau is about 15-20 minutes. There are also minibus services during peak tourist season.

• Take the Dajti Ekspres cable car from the base station (near the National Park entrance) for the easiest and most scenic ascent.
• Go early in the morning to avoid afternoon haze and for clearer views back to Tirana.
• Hike an off-beaten path above the ridge to find shepherds' huts and wildflowers; local guides can point out routes and safe paths.
