How to Get to Kapenguria
Kapenguria is best reached by road from regional airports (Eldoret) or nearby Kenyan towns; there are no scheduled commercial flights into the town itself. Buses and matatus are the common and economical ways to arrive.
Kapenguria does not have a commercial airport: The nearest airports with scheduled services are Eldoret International Airport (EDL) and Kisumu International Airport (KIS). From either airport you continue by road to Kapenguria.
Eldoret International Airport (EDL): Eldoret is the closest major airport with regular domestic and some international flights. By road, Eldoret to Kapenguria takes roughly 3.5-5 hours depending on stops and route. Road transfers include private taxis or shared minibuses; expect coach fares in the region of KES 800-1,800 and private transfers higher (prices vary by operator).
Train: There is no direct passenger rail service to Kapenguria; Kenya Railways does not serve the town, so rail is not a practical option.
Bus/Matatu: The usual arrival method is by long-distance bus or matatu from larger hubs (Kitale, Eldoret, Nakuru). Regular matatu and coach services operate to Kapenguria and nearby towns; journey times vary from 2-6 hours depending on origin. Fares are modest - local matatu trips are typically KES 100-600 for regional legs; intercity coach fares depend on distance and operator.
