How to Get to Kampong Ubi#
Kampong Ubi is a neighbourhood in central-east Singapore well served by Changi Airport (SIN), the MRT and multiple bus routes. Using the MRT is usually the fastest and most predictable option for getting to and around Ubi.
Singapore Changi Airport (SIN): The island’s main airport with excellent rail and bus links. To reach Kampong Ubi, take the MRT (from Changi, change at Tanah Merah/Expo onto the East-West/DT lines depending on service) - typical MRT fares to central-east Singapore stations cost about SGD 1.50-2.50 and take 25-45 minutes. A taxi from Changi to Ubi takes about 15-25 minutes and costs roughly SGD 15-25.
Seletar / regional options: There are limited private and charter services at smaller Singapore airfields, but Changi is the practical arrival point for almost all visitors.
Train (MRT): Kampong Ubi is served by the Downtown Line (Ubi MRT station, DT27). The MRT is clean, frequent and the fastest way to move across the city; expect 5-20 minute travel times to most central areas.
Bus: A dense bus network complements the MRT with many routes serving Ubi and surrounding industrial/residential areas. Fares are low (about SGD 0.90-2.50 depending on distance) and buses integrate with the EZ-Link/NETS FlashPay card system.
How to Get Around Kampong Ubi#
Singapore is compact and highly connected - use the MRT for most trips, buses for finer coverage, and taxis/Grab when you need door-to-door comfort. An EZ-Link or contactless bank card makes fares easy and often slightly cheaper.
- MRT (Downtown Line) (SGD 1.50-2.50) - Ubi MRT (DT line) gives fast, air-conditioned access across the city. Trains run frequently; use an EZ-Link card or contactless bank card for the best fares and convenience.
- Bus (SGD 0.90-2.50) - Singapore’s public buses cover routes not directly served by the MRT and are reliable and frequent. Buses accept the same contactless payment methods as the MRT and are a good cheap option for short trips.
- Taxi / Grab (SGD 8-25 (typical short trip)) - Taxis and Grab rides are abundant and convenient for door-to-door travel, especially with luggage or late at night. Expect fares higher than public transport but still reasonable for short distances.
- Bicycle / Personal mobility (Variable (rental/ride-hire rates)) - Cycling and e-scooters are available for short hops and leisure; bike lanes are improving but always follow local rules and watch for pedestrian traffic. Some areas restrict e-scooter use on footpaths.
- Walking - Kampong Ubi’s local streets are walkable for short errands; Singapore’s sidewalks are well maintained with good signage. For longer journeys use public transport rather than walking in the heat.
