Singapore Zoo is a large wildlife park in the Mandai area north of central Singapore, known for pioneering open, naturalistic enclosures and immersive exhibits. The zoo places an emphasis on conservation, education and close but safe viewing of animals in habitat-like settings.

Exhibits of note include the walk-through Fragile Forest, the family-friendly Rainforest KidzWorld, and geographically themed areas such as the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia. The park offers scheduled feeding sessions, animal presentations and behind-the-scenes tours that supplement regular exhibits.

The zoo opened in 1973 and today forms part of a larger Mandai wildlife precinct that includes adjacent attractions such as the Night Safari and River Wonders. It occupies a sizeable site in Mandai, roughly 25-30 km north of downtown Singapore.

What to See#

• Fragile Forest: Fragile Forest, a walk-through biodome exhibit that recreates a tropical rainforest habitat and contains free-roaming small mammals and birds.
• Rainforest KidzWorld: Rainforest KidzWorld, a family-focused zone with interactive exhibits, a small petting area and water play for children.
• Great Rift Valley: The Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia exhibit, showcasing species native to African highland ecosystems.

From Ang Mo Kio or Khatib MRT stations, take SBS Transit bus 138 to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve entrance; many visitors use direct shuttle services from major hotels or take a taxi/ride-hail (roughly 20-30 minutes from the city center).

• Buy the Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife ticket in advance if wanting to feed free-roaming animals-these sell out on weekends.
• Use the map to locate the fragile nocturnal house and Fragile Forest early in the day when animals are most active.
• Take the tram loop (included with admission) to save time and avoid walking the whole park.
