How to Get Around Hohoe#
The Volta Region relies on road transport: tro-tros and intercity coaches provide the most frequent services. For comfort on the longer Accra-Hohoe run, choose a coach or private hire; tro-tros work well for tight budgets.
- Tro-tro (shared minibus) (GHS 15-40) - Tro-tros are the most common and cheapest way to travel to Hohoe from Accra and other Volta towns; they leave when full and can be crowded. They are practical for budget travellers but less comfortable on long trips.
- Intercity coach (GHS 30-80) - Private coaches (slightly more comfortable than tro-tros) run set schedules between Accra and regional towns. Coaches are a good midground between cost and comfort for longer legs.
- Private taxi / hire (GHS 200-600) - A private taxi or car hire gives door-to-door convenience and is useful for small groups or if you have luggage. Negotiate a fixed fare or daily hire rate in advance.
- Local minibuses & shared taxis (GHS 1-10) - Within Hohoe and nearby villages, local minibuses and shared taxis handle short routes and connections to markets. Fares are low and services frequent during the day.
- Walking - Hohoe town centre is compact and easy to explore on foot for markets, restaurants and small attractions. Walking is straightforward during daytime; avoid poorly lit streets at night.
