How to Get to Flores
Flores is a small island town in Petén famous as the regional hub for visiting nearby Maya sites. Mundo Maya Airport (FRS) is the most practical arrival point; road travel from Guatemala City is possible but lengthy.
Flores / Mundo Maya International Airport (FRS): Mundo Maya is the airport serving Flores and nearby Santa Elena. The airport sits very close to the island town of Flores; taxi or shuttle transfers to the town centre take about 5-15 minutes and typically cost around GTQ 30-60.
Guatemala City (La Aurora, GUA): Many international flights arrive at La Aurora in Guatemala City; from there you can take a domestic flight to Mundo Maya (seasonal) or travel overland by shuttle/bus. Overland travel from Guatemala City to Flores is a long trip (8-10+ hours by road) so most visitors prefer a short domestic connection where available.
Train: Guatemala has no active national passenger rail service serving Flores.
Bus: Long‑distance shuttle buses and public coaches run between Guatemala City and Flores (via Cobán/Petén routes). Overnight or long‑haul buses are common; travel by road takes many hours (typically 8-12 hours depending on service and stops) and fares vary widely-expect a mid‑range coach fare that is significantly cheaper than flying but takes much longer.
How to Get Around Flores #
Flores (Petén) is very walkable - the island-town center is compact and easy to cover on foot. Mototaxis and tuk-tuk-style vehicles run short routes; boats shuttle between Flores and Santa Elena. Buses and shared vans go to Tikal and other regional attractions.
