How to Get to Gros Islet
Gros Islet is easiest reached via George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) a short drive away; international flights arrive at Hewanorra (UVF) with a longer transfer. From either airport you can take a taxi, shuttle or a shared minibus into Gros Islet.
George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU): SLU is the closest airport to Gros Islet (about 10-20 minutes by road). Taxis from SLU to Gros Islet typically cost EC$20-40; shared minibuses run for around EC$3-5 and take 15-25 minutes depending on stops.
Hewanorra International Airport (UVF): UVF is about 45-75 minutes by car to Gros Islet (longer in heavy traffic). Shuttle buses and private taxis operate the route - expect shuttle fares around EC$25-40 and private taxis EC$100-160 (times 60-90 minutes).
Train: No rail services are available on Saint Lucia.
Bus / Minibuses: Regular minibuses run between Castries and Gros Islet (Castries-Gros Islet ~20-30 minutes). Fares are inexpensive (around EC$3-5). Public stops are informal - flag down vehicles or check at the Castries market area or Rodney Bay.
How to Get Around Gros Islet #
Gros Islet village is small and easy to walk around. Regular shared minibuses (known locally as taxis) and private taxis link Gros Islet with Castries and Rodney Bay; many visitors also use rental cars or hotel transfers to move around the north of the island. If you plan to visit on a Friday, expect heavy traffic and limited parking around the village during the evening street party.
