How to Get to Golden Sands#
Golden Sands (Zlatni Pyasatsi) is a coastal resort north of Varna and is best reached via Varna Airport (VAR) with a short onward shuttle, bus or taxi transfer. Varna city is the main rail and bus hub for the resort.
Varna Airport (VAR): Varna is the closest airport to Golden Sands (Zlatni Pyasatsi), about 20-25 km south. From Varna Airport you can take line 409 bus or shuttle services to Golden Sands (journey ~25-40 minutes) for around BGN 2-6; taxis take about 20-30 minutes and cost roughly BGN 25-40.
Burgas Airport (BOJ): Burgas is farther away (about 100-120 km) and used mainly by some international flights; travel time to Golden Sands is around 1.5-2 hours by road. Transfers and taxis are available but more expensive.
Train: Varna railway station connects to major Bulgarian cities; from Varna you continue to Golden Sands by public bus or taxi. Trains arrive into Varna central station (Varna) and then a short onward surface transfer is needed.
Bus: Regular tourist buses and municipal buses run between Varna and Golden Sands; the airport bus (line 409) also serves the resort. Bus rides from Varna centre are about 25-40 minutes and cost a few BGN; intercity buses from Sofia/other cities arrive into Varna where you transfer to local transport.
How to Get Around Golden Sands#
Golden Sands is simplest reached from Varna by airport shuttle or taxi; once there, buses and walking handle most short trips while car rental helps for wider coastal exploration.
- Airport bus / shuttle (VAR-Golden Sands) (BGN 2-6) - Varna Airport is served by shuttle and public buses to Golden Sands (often labelled line 409). Shuttles are timed to flights in high season and are a cheap, convenient transfer option. Expect 25-40 minutes travel depending on traffic.
- Taxi (BGN 25-40) - Taxis are plentiful from Varna city and the airport; use licensed taxis and confirm approximate fares. Taxis are faster and convenient for groups or heavy luggage-expect BGN 25-40 from Varna airport to Golden Sands.
- Local buses (BGN 1.60-5) - Municipal buses and tourist lines run frequently in high season between Varna and Golden Sands. They are the cheapest option but can be crowded during summer weekends; carry small change and check schedules for evening service.
- Car rental (BGN 40-120/day (rental)) - Renting a car is useful for exploring the coastline and nearby attractions. Parking around the resort can be busy during summer; drives are straightforward with good signage from Varna.
- Seasonal resort shuttles (BGN 5-15 (per trip)) - Many hotels and tour operators run private shuttles and transfers in high season-handy for ski‑lift‑style door‑to‑door service. Book ahead during July-August peak season.
- Walking - Golden Sands resort area is pedestrian friendly along the beachfront and main promenade; walking is the best way to move between beach, restaurants and hotels in the central area.
