How to Get to Balchik#
Balchik on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is most conveniently reached via Varna Airport with a straightforward bus or taxi transfer. Regional buses from Varna provide frequent and inexpensive connections.
Varna Airport (VAR): Varna is the closest international airport to Balchik (approximately 40-45 km). From Varna Airport take a bus or taxi to Varna city centre (about 20-30 minutes) and then a regional bus to Balchik (another 45-60 minutes). Buses between Varna and Balchik typically cost around 3-6 BGN; taxis from the airport to Balchik are faster but cost more (approximately 60-90 BGN).
Bourgas Airport (BOJ): Bourgas is further south and an alternative for some routes; the transfer to Balchik is longer (over an hour and a half by road) and usually requires a private transfer or combination of bus routes, so Varna is generally preferable for most travellers.
Train: There is no direct rail link into Balchik; the nearest rail services run into Varna. From Varna Railway Station you can reach Balchik by bus or taxi.
Bus: Regular regional buses run between Varna and Balchik from Varna’s bus station; journey time is about 45-60 minutes and fares are typically 3-6 BGN. Local buses and minibuses cover the short hops in the area and are the standard public option.
