The Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) in Bogotá is a national museum that houses extensive collections of pre-Hispanic gold and metalwork from across Colombia, assembled by the Banco de la República. The museum is a major cultural institution for archaeology and indigenous art in Colombia.

• Go early on weekdays to avoid school groups; the ground-level galleries can become crowded mid-morning.
• Allow at least 2 hours-there are 34,000 gold objects and many ethnographic displays worth taking time with.
