Black Sea Coast (Batumi, Kobuleti, Adjara)

By late spring the warmth becomes pleasant rather than oppressive, and April sees more consistent dry windows for walks on the Batumi boulevard and trips up to the botanical garden above the city. Daytime highs often reach 15-20°C while evenings can be cool; bees and blossoming citrus trees make the promenades smell fresh. Beach umbrellas are not yet needed, and crowds are limited - a fine time to try local markets and take day trips to the mountainous Adjara villages.

Imereti & Samegrelo (Kutaisi, Gelati, Martvili)

By April the Imeretian hills and tea plantations look renewed and comfortable walking weather is common - daytime temperatures typically 15-18°C with frequent sunny spells. Boat trips through Martvili Gorge reopen more reliably and trails become less muddy; bees are busy in blossoming orchards around Kutaisi. Expect sporadic showers and pack layers for cool mornings, but it’s a rewarding time to explore the region’s cultural sites without the summer crowds.

Tbilisi & Kakheti (Eastern Georgia - capital and wine country)

April is pleasant for strolling the old city as chestnut trees start to leaf out and cafés open terrace seating when sunshine holds; daytime highs commonly reach 15-20°C. Kakheti becomes awake with budding vines and the countryside is photogenic; early-season wine festivals sometimes occur. However, spring showers can interrupt vineyard picnics so a waterproof layer and flexible plans are recommended.

Greater Caucasus & Svaneti (Stepantsminda/Kazbegi, Mestia, Ushguli)

By April the high mountains are often still snowbound but lower-altitude trails around Mestia become more walkable with muddy patches and roaring meltwater. Mountain rivers swell and waterfalls are especially forceful - Karaginsky and similar cascades are impressive - but many high passes remain closed until late May. Pack waterproof boots and expect variable weather: clear, cold mornings and wet, windy afternoons are common.

Southern Highlands & Javakheti (Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Javakheti Plateau)

April brings earlier signs of spring in lower valleys where meadows green up and early flowers appear, but the high plateau melts later in the month; daytime temperatures in Borjomi can reach 10-15°C. Birdwatching improves as migratory species return to Paravani and Tabatskuri lakes, though some roads remain rough. Pack a warm midlayer and a waterproof - it’s an excellent shoulder season for geology and quiet cultural visits to Akhaltsikhe’s Rabati complex.
