Black Sea Coast (Batumi, Kobuleti, Adjara)

October shifts to a wetter rhythm - rainfall increases significantly and strong, blustery days off the Black Sea are more common, especially later in the month; temperatures fall into the 12-18°C range. Batumi’s palm-lined streets can seem windswept and some coastal hiking routes become slick; it’s an atmospheric time for museums and thermal spas but not for beach days. Travelers should expect occasional cancellations of small-boat trips and bring sturdy, water-resistant shoes.

Imereti & Samegrelo (Kutaisi, Gelati, Martvili)

Early autumn in September brings milder temperatures - often in the low 20s°C - and many recent rains make waterfalls and rivers lively while the hills take on early autumn tones. This is an excellent month for canyoning and hiking in gorges when conditions are still warm but crowds thin. Bring a light fleece for evenings and a waterproof for sudden showers, and expect better hotel availability than in high summer.

Tbilisi & Kakheti (Eastern Georgia - capital and wine country)

By October the heat fades and many wine harvests finish; daytime highs often sit in the mid-teens to low twenties and autumn colours appear in the Alazani valley. Tbilisoba - Tbilisi’s city festival - is usually mid-October and is great for food, music and markets; it’s a busy weekend so expect crowds. Cool mornings and evenings mean layering for day trips and crisp air is perfect for cellar tours and open-air wine tastings.

Greater Caucasus & Svaneti (Stepantsminda/Kazbegi, Mestia, Ushguli)

September offers crisp clear air and the first hints of autumn on the ridgelines - daytime temperatures fall into the low to mid-teens at village level and golden larch patches start to appear. Treks are less crowded and the landscape’s colours are changing, making this a favorite time for photographers. Some services begin to reduce frequency late in the month as guesthouses prepare for winter, so check arrangements for transport.

Southern Highlands & Javakheti (Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Javakheti Plateau)

September’s cooler mornings and golden-brown pasturelands mark the approach of autumn and often provide some of the clearest air for photography in the region. Harvest activity in the highlands and local festivals around Akhaltsikhe create pleasant cultural experiences; daytime highs remain comfortable in the mid-teens to low twenties. Bring a warm layer for evenings and expect fewer services in outlying guesthouses after the main summer season.
