Garni Travel Guide
City City in Kotayk, Armenia
At the gorge’s rim, Garni’s Hellenistic temple and basalt ‘symphony’ draw daytrippers; villagers run barbecue meals, hot springs sit nearby and the road on to Geghard and Yerevan is short.
Why Visit Garni? #
Known for its striking Roman-era temple and dramatic geology, this Armenian village draws history and nature lovers alike. The Hellenistic Garni Temple and the basalt columns of the Garni Gorge (the ‘Symphony of the Stones’) are instantly memorable, and nearby villages offer demonstrations of lavash baking in a tonir and traditional folk dances. Mountain scenery and ancient ruins combine with hearty Armenian cuisine to create a cultural-museum-meets-outdoors feel in a compact setting.
