How to Get to El Progreso#
El Progreso (Yoro) is close to San Pedro Sula and is best reached by road from Ramón Villeda Morales Airport (SAP) or from the city by short bus/taxi. There is no passenger rail service in this corridor.
Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, San Pedro Sula (SAP): The main international airport for the northwest of Honduras and the nearest major airport to El Progreso (Yoro). From SAP you can reach El Progreso by taxi or bus in about 20-40 minutes depending on traffic. Taxi fares are typically L200-500; buses are much cheaper (see bus paragraph).
La Ceiba (GUA) / other domestic flights: Depending on where you are coming from, you may also use La Ceiba or Tegucigalpa and then transfer overland, but San Pedro Sula is the most convenient airport for El Progreso.
Train: Honduras does not have an active passenger rail network serving El Progreso.
Bus: Frequent buses and ‘rapiditos’ run between San Pedro Sula and El Progreso; the trip is short (about 20-40 minutes) and inexpensive. Buses depart from major terminals and stops in San Pedro Sula and arrive at central points in El Progreso.

El Progreso is best accessed from San Pedro Sula by a short bus or taxi ride. Buses are cheap and frequent; taxis and shuttles are faster and more convenient with luggage.
- Intercity bus / rapidito (HNL 10-40) - Frequent buses and minibuses link San Pedro Sula with El Progreso; they are cheap, run many times per day, and are the primary public option for commuters and travellers.
- Taxi / private transfer (HNL 150-500) - Taxis are quick and convenient for door-to-door trips from the airport or around town; confirm the fare before travel for longer intercity trips.
- Shared shuttle / van (HNL 100-350) - Shared airport shuttles and private vans can be booked for group travel or if you have lots of luggage; these are a middle ground between buses and private taxis.
- Motorbike taxi (HNL 10-50) - Motorbike taxis are used in some neighbourhoods for short hops; they are fast and inexpensive but less suitable for luggage or during heavy rain.
- Walking - El Progreso’s central area is compact and easy to explore on foot; walking is practical for markets and short local errands.
