How to Get to El Monte

El Monte is easiest reached from Santiago's international airport (SCL) or from Santiago city by road. There is no direct intercity rail; regional and suburban buses (and combinations of Metro + bus) are the practical public-transport options.

By Air

Arturo Merino Benítez / Santiago (SCL): Santiago’s international airport is the main entry point. From SCL you can take a taxi or airport transfer to El Monte (about 40-60 minutes depending on traffic, taxi ~CLP 25,000-40,000) or use public transport into Santiago and continue by bus.

La Florida / Concepción (CCP): For travellers approaching from the south, Carriel Sur (CCP) serves Concepción; onward travel to El Monte requires a longer road trip via Santiago (several hours) and is only practical as part of a wider regional itinerary.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct intercity train service to El Monte; Greater Santiago’s suburban rail (Metro) covers the capital but not this small municipality.

Bus: Regular buses and minibuses run from Santiago’s bus terminals and suburbs toward Maipo province towns, with services that stop in or near El Monte. From central Santiago allow roughly 45-90 minutes depending on traffic; fares are inexpensive (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand CLP). Using Metro + local bus from a nearby station is often the cheapest option.

How to Get Around El Monte #

El Monte’s town centre is compact and walkable; most shops and municipal services are within easy walking distance. Streets are flat and suitable for short bicycle rides. To reach Santiago or nearby towns you’ll use regional buses and shared taxis; fares to the capital are modest but services are less frequent than from the city. Local taxis and motorcycle taxis operate for short hops-carry small bills and confirm a price before boarding.
