The Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos is Chile’s principal national stadium, located in the Ñuñoa district of Santiago and named for sports journalist Julio Martínez Prádanos. It is the country’s largest stadium and the main venue for national team matches and large sporting events.

The stadium offers a large bowl of seating, athletics facilities and multiple stands used for international and domestic fixtures; it was a principal venue for the 1962 FIFA World Cup. Public access outside matchdays is generally limited to events, guided visits or museum displays when available.

Originally opened in 1938, the stadium has been rebuilt and renovated several times and hosted international tournaments, most notably the 1962 World Cup. In the immediate aftermath of the 1973 military coup the site was used as a detention centre, an episode that remains an important and sensitive part of its history.

Located in the Ñuñoa borough of Santiago, the stadium lies within the urban area east of the city centre and is accessible by Santiago’s road network and public transport.
